Dr. Smith is an optometrist dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of binocular vision and learning-related visual disorders. She is a native Texan and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994. She graduated with honors from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 2001 and is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. She completed a post-graduate residency in Pediatric Optometry and Vision Therapy Rehabilitation at the State University of New York in New York City in 2002. She chose to concentrate her efforts in Developmental Optometry and Vision Therapy after learning of the vast number of children and adults suffering from treatable vision problems such as strabismus, amblyopia, learning-related visual disorders, and reduced visual functioning secondary to acquired brain injury. Her experience in working with patients of all ages, including infants, has enabled her to utilize objective, as well as subjective, examination techniques to insure proper vision development in all of her patients.
Dr. Smith has served as one of the Clinical Directors of the Texas Special Olympics Lions Club International Opening Eyes program. This program has allowed her to provide quality eye care to Special Olympics athletes in Texas and Mexico who otherwise may not have received the necessary visual aid. Through her professional training and volunteer efforts, she has gained experience in diagnosing and treating visual disorders in populations with special needs.
Dr. Smith is currently licensed in the state of Texas . She is a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, the Optometric Extension Program Foundation, the American Academy of Optometry, the Texas Optometric Association, and the American Optometric Association.
